NYC Music

31 Jan

You know that song that is always playing during your vacations? Well, I had that on NYC too. There are 3 songs that remind me of this trip!

1º Edge of Glory | Lady Gaga

The first song that I heard in NYC in Gaga’s concert

2º Rolling in the Deep | Adele

Always playing in every store I entered, was the hit during that 2 weeks and the radio stations loved it!

3º Firework | Katy Perry

I dedicate this one to my friend that was an amazing host! He knows why! LOL. While walking around in NY, we kept singing this song, it gets stuck in your head somehow… :)

New York Trip!

26 Jan

If you follow this blog for some time, you might remember that back in June (my birthday) I offered myself a promising trip to New York. Back then, I promised that I would post photos about it and would show you how cool NYC is!

The thing is… I was borrowed a fancy-pretty cool-expensive camera from a guy who lived there. While in NYC, I used and abused the camera and the amazing quality of the pics! You can imagine how many photos I took and, judging by the camera, you might have an idea on how heavy the file with the pics was… So, I didn’t bring the photos with me, unfortunately. Therefore I had to wait till now, to get them back! (True story, bad logistics and way too many Gb’s…)

Finally I’m able to talk a bit about New York City (supported by images) and to show you some photos of the city, the people and the fashion trends.

Once Upon a time in NYC

After a long flight, some boring movies and a stupid annoying cop at the airport, I started my adventure in the city that never sleeps. Of course I had to begin by riding trains and a thousand subways, asking directions and walking through crowded streets to finally get home! But I didn’t even care! I was thrilled about stepping on that city’s floor at last… Since childhood I always wanted to visit America.

I stayed at a friend’s house in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. My first meal was an enormous slice of pizza and a giant coke, and then I headed to a characteristic bar named Rudy’s – pretty cool for a first AMERICAN impression!

On the next day, I woke up pretty early, went to central Park for a walk and guess who was there! Lady Gaga! Good Morning America (GMA) organized a free Lady Gaga concert that day. I don’t need to say that it was fucking crowded, right?

There were 12 incredible days! I went to some rooftop parties, to Sunday concerts in Brooklyn, to 6 Flags in New Jersey, I went to MET and saw Alexander McQueen exhibition (never thought I would be so close to his fashion pieces of art). I ate a lot of junk food and delighted myself every morning with an exquisite iced coffee from a 24/7 store. And for me, that was the magic of NYC!

I will have several posts about my trip to New York City. I will not bore you with extensive writing; it’s just a way to separate photos about different subjects: the city, the people, and the style!

Hope you enjoy!

Say Something Nice

2 Sep

Improv Everywhere calls itself a “Prank Collective”. What is that? I don’t know. Apparently a bunch of people created some kind of group that enjoys causing the “chaos and joy” around NYC. Please understand chaos as some kind of challenge of the social norms, or the so called “normal life”. It’s not like beating people or stealing.

Anyway, their last mission was to construct a wooden lectern with a megaphone holster and a sign where you could read “say something nice”. This was placed around New York and then left alone.

See people’s reactions and messages in the video, it’s pretty cool! Go check their website for more infos and more funny “missions”. These guys are damn cool!

BTW this project was produced as a part of the Guggenheim Museum exhibition stillspotting nyc.

This kid had a really deep message: “To infinity and beyond!”

And  this guys sang a happy song to everyone

Are you sick of hearing conversations that you don’t even care about?

Barbie Jewelry

4 May

Margaux Lange, a jewelry designer from New York (Where else?), creates astonishing pieces with “Barbie parts”.

Honestly, I love this jewels!  It’s a mix of creepy objects with nice childhood associations, Pop art and it is also made with the most fashionable doll on earth. However, I can’t avoid thinking that probably Margaux was a messed up kid to whom Barbies ruined life or something! I just can think about zombie Barbies scaring a cute little kid… Just kidding!

By the way, this artist uses only second hand dolls and accessories from donations, garage sales, thrift stores and eBay. (I know…I was also imagining her stealing Barbies from kids on the street and laughing malevolently)

”Often my work utilizes Barbie as an archetype to analyze all that this icon has come to symbolize. Sometimes, I aim to distance myself and critique pop culture in this way, and other times I wish to engage and participate in it. Much like my own experience with womanhood: a series of rejecting and embracing prescriptive roles and stereotypes” Margaux Lange
